[VLOG] A Walk by Wagi Bridge and a Sudden Thought About My Super

hurdailyinsight 2025. 4. 19. 19:32

It’s the Easter long weekend,
and thanks to my Thursday flex leave, I’ve got a glorious 5-day break ahead.

This morning, I went for a walk with our dog and my No.1 and No.3.
We followed the Ginninderra Creek walking trail, looping around through Wagi Bridge.
The sun was gentle, the air was cool, the kids were laughing, and the dog was chasing the breeze.

Somewhere along the way, a thought suddenly crossed my mind:

"I wonder how my superannuation account is doing."

Honestly… I haven’t checked it in a while.
Maybe I should take some time during this break to log in and have a proper look.

I moved to Australia in January 2007,
and settled in Canberra around August 2008.
I had two children and started working relatively late compared to most.
So it’s not surprising that my super balance is lower than average.

That said, I’ve been working in the Australian Public Service for nearly 4 years now,
and the employer contributions are definitely better than in the private sector —
something I’m really thankful for.

Still, I sometimes wonder:

“Will I really be working until 67? Or even later?”

To be honest,
I still find more joy in working than staying home,
so I’d like to continue working for as long as I can —
and build my super along the way.

This morning’s walk gave me peace, sunlight, laughter, and
a gentle reminder to think ahead 🍃

Even though saving small amounts day to day is important,
it’s nice to occasionally pause and picture my future self —
hopefully retired and happy.

📸 I didn’t take any pictures today,
but I’ll be sure to next time — Wagi Creek is such a peaceful walking trail.

**There’s even a Parkrun held here every Saturday morning — but I’ll save that story for another day 😊**
